The 15:17 to Paris
American, historical drama, 94 min, 2018
2018. március 15 - 21.
The film is based on true events: on the 21st August 2015 an armed terrorist was about to open fire on a train en route from Amsterdam to Paris. Three friends successfully foiled the attack, and it was just a matter of time for Hollywood to pounce on the story.
Clint Eastwood assumed the direction of the film, and most surprisingly he casted the three friends, Spencer Stone, Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler to play themselves. According to the critics it wasn't necessarily a good idea, and the whole film has an experimental touch about it. The intense moments of the foiled attack are short and presented rather detachedly, while the narrative spends a lot of time discovering the young men's backstories, and even describing their eventless backpack holiday. Well, perhaps that's what life is after all: a long chain of uninteresting moments with occasional brief adrenaline rushes. The courageous deed of the three friends is inspiring and exemplary, that's beyond question, as they have saved dozens of lives on the train, it's just the method of adapting their story to the big screen that we might find unsatisfactory. But, as 'The Guardian' has stated, ex-president François Hollande is still having a good chance of receiving some special reality Oscar for the speech he gives in the actual footage of the ceremony during which he distributes the Légion d’honneur to the heroes.
