Jordan Peele became a star director right after his big hit, the Oscar-winning 'Get Out!' in 2017. Now he has created a socially conscious horror again, and won the critics over for a second time as 'Us' proved to be a strong and unique film in its genre.
The Wilsons, a seemingly normal middle-class family of four, are going on a well-deserved vacation to their summer home near the California coast. Adelaide (Lupita Nyong’o), the Mum of the family is haunted by a traumatic experience she had as a young girl while on a similar vacation. She has bad feelings about going back, and soon real frightening events prove that her fears were not without a reason. A strange group of people show up at their house. They look like them, in a grotesque version. They wear red jumpsuits and carry golden scissors, and nothing seems right about them. Though the film is stuffed with real frightening moments, there is also a kind of black humor throughout, as the director not only presents our inner fears and demons but also the controversy of contemporary American society.
