Vita and Virginia
Making a movie about writers can be difficult, and often it results in a dreary and uninteresting literature course. Unfortunately that's exactly the case with this biographical drama.
Based on Eileen Atkins’s 1992 play, this film tells the story of a passionate romance between Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West (played by Elizabeth Debicki and Gemma Arterton). According to 'The Guardian' director Chanya Button was "so desperately focused on telegraphing Woolf’s genius through her exquisite language that she forgot to utilise the language of cinema." Despite the good acting (Elizabeth Debicki is wonderful in the role) the film fails to convey real emotions (the romance inspired Woolf to write Orlando, one of her finest books) as the dialogues feel artificial and fake, using the real correspondence between the writers and reciting excerpts from their books.
