Wasp Network

The genre of the film may trick some people into expecting a pacy, James Bond-like spy thriller, but the reality is far from that. This film is based on a true story, and depicts the life of Cuban spies in a hiperrealistic, matter-of-fact way, that can feel boring to the less magnanimous spectators.
René González kisses his wife and his kid goodby before going to work. But instead of going to work, he steals a plane and flees from Cuba forever. He is a traitor and a deserter. At least that's what his wife Olga (Pénelope Cruz) thinks at first. Later she realizes that her husband is working as a spy in Miami, infiltrating anti-Castro groups who are also responsible for illegal drug trade. Is there a way for her to join René and be reunited with him? This slow-paced spy story illuminates an interesting period of the Cold War, it is quite a pity that instead of concentrating on the fate of René & Olga, the film introduces many new characters too, so at the end the audience keep losing the line while trying to follow the different sub-plots. Attention! The film is mostly in Spanish!
