Eastern and Western civilization can't really embrace one another. There are so many differences! Though maybe they are not so many after all. A Palestinian filmmaker travels to Europe and America to discover the things which connect and also divide our cultures.

Filmmaker Elia Suleiman travels to different cities (Paris, New York) and finds unexpected parallels to his homeland of Palestine. Sometimes he wonders... Sometimes he is shocked or feeling entertained, and he often finds himself in humorous situations. The title of the film is ironic a bit: the magical 'West' is far from being as magical as we want to believe. This unique road movie reflects our modern civilization in a quiet and meditative way.
